Costa Rica is about the size of the U.S. state of West Virginia and is located in Central America. Bordered by Nicaragua to the north and Panama to the south, Costa Rica boasts over 900 miles of Pacific and Caribbean coastline.
Covering less than ½ of 1% of the Earth's surface area, Costa Rica offers 6% of the world's biodiversity. That's why 21% of the country is protected - Costa Rica is the country with the largest percentage of protected area in the world.
